We had a nice visit with my brother's family for thanksgiving, and fairly uneventful trips back and forth from Tucson. But still, I was exausted when we got in last night (despite the fact that Brian drove), and still tired this morning.
So Brian, bless his heart, took Rosie to the Aquarium to give me some down time. I laid down for a little while before they left, then helped them get out the door. Then I challenged myself to take real down time. What would I do, I asked myself, if I did something just for me?
I took a shower and trimmed my bangs, and as I went to get dressed I was reminded how much I hated the mess on my dresser. It was dusty and cluttered, disorganized and messy. I had a potted Rose plant I recently brought in from outside that I wanted to put there, and my dreamcatcher was lying on my jewelry box, still unhung after more than a year here.
So that's what I did with my down time. Cleared the dresser off, put things away. Found new places to put things that needed homes in drawers and cupboards. Dusted. Rearranged the plants, moved some pictures to a bookcase, hung my dreamcatcher.
It looks so much better! Perhaps I will post a picture later. My little lacquer box from Rusia is dusted and visible. The wooden carved fish that my Grandmother brought back from China is sitting in a clear space, accenting the calm order and cleanliness. The fish is supposed to bring happiness, and having this space clean indeed made me happy.
Brian texted they were having lunch at the acquarium so I made myself a cobb salad and had a leisurely lunch. Then there was just enough time to load the dishwasher and wipe the counter before they got back.
I feel good about my down time, which is a nice feeling. It was productive, but also stress relieving.
How are you relaxing today?
