Maybe an unconscious reaction to the baby moving? Getting tense in a minor way?

yeah, I think it's perhaps because of the relaxin. I'm hyperflexible in the first place. Some mornings I feel the main thumb joint is loose or has popped out of place. Maybe it's being strained. Right now, on the other hand, it feels swollen and tight. Normally I would be able to bend my wrist over and touch my thumb to my arm. Right now they're an inch and a half apart and not getting any closer...

The thumb thing could be related to carpal tunnel too. The hurt comes after the tingling.

This feeling is actually qualitatively different from how the fingers involved in the carpal tunnel feel. It's specific to the joints of the thumbs, and it mostly goes away shortly after waking. (right now the middle fingers in my right hand are in a constant state of numbish tingly pain that's worse if I bend them and grip things.)

I get sharp pains in my thumb joints if I try to grip things too shortly after waking in the morning, and they feel strained. Totally different sort of feeling.

Can you take ibuprofen? A schedule of that may help the swelling in your wrists to help take pressure off of that nerve.
