It's getting better all the time...
So let's see, it's been a while since I posted. I have since invited the first pick fan guest for 2005 and received one answer, from the Toastmaster:
Steven Brust will be ConFusion's Toastmaster in 2005!

I'm very pleased, both because I'm quite fond of Steven and because I think he'll make a great Toastmaster.

plans are solidified for us to go to Arizona for Thanksgiving, and this month Bill's mom is going to visit us Oct 24-26. My own mom and dad came over for dinner last night, both to tell us stories from the weekend of going to the wedding of a family friend, and just in general to get in touch. I've been pretty out of touch with the family this month. It was a fun dinner and I topped it off with the Nikki's English Toffees from Big Ten that Tammy introduced me to. As expected, mom and dad liked them a lot.

Sunday night I got a chance to talk to my sister on the phone. that helped settle this whole "out of touch" feeling as well. She's a stress kitten right now - changing jobs, moving to Jacksonville, FL, to be the director of their Public Art program. She's working her current job right up until the day she leaves, then has 6 days to find an apartment, flies back to Denver to supervise the moving guys and pack her car, drives back to FL, and starts work immediately. Up side is the new employers are paying air and hotel for the apartment-finding trip. Down side is no vacation between jobs.

Speaking of jobs, my job has been stressing me out a lot lately, both psycologically and physically. Sarah had good input about not letting things stress you unnecessarily, and Bill got me to talk about it this weekend, which helped. Not just about the job stress, but also about House stress, ConFusion Stress, looking for a better job stress, and AWC Gala Stress. The Gala is Nov. 8, which means we're in the final month countdown and there is still a lot to do (I'm Chair, or VP Gala, whichever term I feel like using). We still haven't come up with decent collaborative tools, which is sad. That'll have to wait for next year, mostly, though supposedly the Menlo volunteers are going to help us with some.

I met with Wyn on Sunday about PR 2 for ConFusion and also sent out a reminder to people about it and about web content. got a couple good notes back about web content. I also made a couple phone calls seeking advertising in the program and made up a little flyer sheet to give people interested in it. I called Hedwig about Lloyd's being entered in the Detroit SF Hall of Fame, and talked to Chad; he was going to talk to Howard about it. I got the Masquerade and Art show rules up on the web site. It's progress.

Excellent guest choice.

What exactly does a Toastmaster do at Confusion?

Master of Ceremonies at opening ceremonies and the guest of honour speeches and as many panels as possible.

It's equivalent to a GOH slot interms of what they recieve and what we expect from them.

Sometimes special events like concerts it they are musical.

feel the urge to give positive feedback about the whole talking it out concept. can be cathartic, no?

yeah, but it wasn't pleasant that it started out as an argument, and there continues to be a tension between us. I'm really tired, and now due to things Bill said I spent yesterday evening stiff and worried that something I said would be taken as an attack on him. I went to sleep early.

we had a nice dinner though. I made pork chops with celery and rice and cream of celery soup. and we sat at the table and ate and talked. that went pretty well.
