The smile train
In case you're looking for a good charity... a friend of mine at a previous job and a professor of mine at Grinnell both had children with cleft lip and palate.

Smiletrain gives free cleft surgery to thousands of children each year. The operation takes about 45 minutes, they say. This is the sort of organization that is quietly making the whole world a better place in the midst of international strife and conflict.

A friend of mine recently adopted a wee one from china with that problem and she just had the surgery... hers is going to require at least one more to finish fixing though.

I love this organization, and I love that my dentist/orthodontist are active supporters. :)
