Want to Judge a science fair?
After my last science fair post a couple people mentioned they would have been interested in judging but they couldn't take the weekday off. An email I got today indicates they are still looking for more judges for the Michigan Science and Engineering Fair, SATURDAY, April 5.

go here for more information or email SF2008@sefmd.org

Location: Kettering University, Campus Center Building. A map is on the web site http://www.sciencefair.info (click on Michigan Science Fair). Address: 1700 W Third Ave, Flint, MI 48504.

Time:
8:00 AM - Judge registration with coffee and continental breakfast
8:30 AM - Judge Orientation
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - Judge Preview of projects (no students present)
10:00 AM - 12:10 PM - Judge interviews
12:10 PM - 12:30 PM - Initial Judge caucus (MUST be completed BEFORE lunch)
12:30 PM - 1:00 PM - Lunch (lunch is provided)
1:10 PM - 2:30 PM - Judging Interviews for actual placement and grand awards
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM - Final Judge Caucus
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Awards Ceremony

The morning session will be with students in your speciality. The afternoon area will include students outside of your specfic speciality but within the 'Life Sciences' or 'Physical Sciences' area to permit selection of overall winners. A few of you will be selected to cross judge both major categories (Life and Physical). Your actual judging assignment will be made on Saturday morning. There are significantly more Life Science Projects than Physical Science projects this year, and we are CRITICALLY short of judges in the following areas:
Life Sciences:
Biochemistry - have ZERO judges - Need at least 3 judges
Botany - Have two judges - Need at least 2 more
Environmental Science - Need one more judge
Medicine & Health - Need one more judge
Microbiology - ok
Zoology - Only have ONE judge, Need 1 or 2 more judges
Physical Sciences:
Chemistry - ok - will reassign some judges
Computer Science - ok
Earth & Space Science - could use one more judge
Engineering - THANK YOU - ok - will reassign some engineers to professional awards and other categories
Mathematics - have one judge, could use one more judge
Physics - ok - just right

Please spread the word and try to recuit some help!

If I weren't several hours away, I'd consider volunteering. Sounds like fun!
