Quiet Weekend

It's been a nice quiet weekend. A bit odd, knowing so many of our friends were at ConClave, but we really needed a weekend with no plans. As it was, Chuck ended up coming over for dinner on Friday, which prompted Bill to request that I make Spinach Bacon Smoked Sausage Lasagna, a concept of Bill's that I helped make real for the first time about a month ago, I guess. It turned out well again, though like any spinach lasagna it doesn't age as well as a standard meat lasagna. Perhaps especially so, because the bacon gets soggy.

We finished that off saturday night with my parents, who brought movies with them that we didn't watch because the conversation was so good. :) We did an impromptu scotch tasting and then we all gathered around and finished up my 3000 piece jigsaw puzzle, which I'll post a picture of as soon as we clear the digital camera, which is actually FULL.

Both Saturday and today I did Tai Chi. I've been doing it more and more often and today I led the Form for the second time since our regular leader, Chad, has been out of town. I studied Tai Chi under Gabriel Chin for roughly 8 years -- four years steadily in high school, and then gradually less often as my visits back to Ann Arbor got more sparse. I've known most of the individual moves since then, but only this summer have I gotten solid on the order in which the moves are strung together in the Form. Leading is a great test of that. The first time I lead I missed on transition - transitions into the wrong move and skipped a few -- but this morning my only mistake was I lost count in a series of repeated steps and did an extra one. The ladies who've been there when I've tried leading have been very patient with me. one of them, Sandy, knows the order of the moves better than me, but I know the actual moves better than her, if that makes any sense. Still, I have a lot to learn and I hope Chad will be back next week.

Today I got caught up on a lot of computer work and email, and actually was late to tai chi in the morning because I was contributing to the wiki at We have a wiki of sorts at work but it's run on different software without different levels of content protection. I haven't really figured this system out yet, but I like the idea of having a wiki-style repository for SF conrunning information. I imagine it will take a while to take a mature and useful shape but I hope people will give it some time and view it as a community resource. I also hope the guy who's running it backs up his server from time to time...
