kind of a con report...|
It was a good con.
Oh, another thing I meant to comment on was the hotel. There were clearly some issues with the hotel reservation system (like there always are).. On Sunday when I got my checkout thing slipped under my door, it had the wrong rate on it. I went down to the consuite to grab a bagel and double-check what the group room rate was, and when I brought it up someone else responded that it was one thing if you had reserved a room before the block closed and another if you hadn't made that deadline and it turned out that wasn't true - Greg had negotiated for the room rate to be available through to the end of the con, but people who called later to reserve a room didn't get that message. Sound familiar?
Also, the program indicated that Greg had negotiated a later checkout (from 1 pm to 2 pm) For Minicon members, but the hotel staff was oblivious of this on Friday. On Sunday I negotiated a 4 pm checkout for myself (I was taking the shuttle to the airport at 5) but anyone not the manager was really adamant about the 1 pm checkout being non-negotiable. "Checkin is at 3!" they told me...
The final disappointment was that there wasn't a 5 pm shuttle to the airport on Sunday even though there was one listed on their schedule, but the 5:30 shuttle got me there in plenty of time. For all that it was a holiday weekend, security was moving pretty quickly at the aiport and I didn't have any bags to check.
Hotels. Watcha gonna do?
