In the mid- to late-1980s, Jetta was the car of choice for taxi drivers in Montreal. They ran some of them only when a single driver was working and some nearly all the time, turning them off only to refuel. They put hundreds of miles per day on them.
These cars didn't give much trouble. I rarely heard of one dying. Maybe VW has changed them since. Maybe they go for a certain amount of time and them give up the ghost.
That's all I know. It ain't much.
