Today has been rather like a Rainy Sunday
And it's been a rather nice day, except that I wasn't supposed to spend it lazily getting caught up on personal correspondence and reading Remnant population by Elizabeth Moon, I was supposed to be applying for jobs. So far I've done one thing on the job hunt, which is open my mail from U of M's MAIS that tells me a job posting I applied to has been canceled. At least their letters are vaguely encouraging.

I see I haven't posted in about a week. It was a nice week. Bill and I have been busy doing things around the house, replacing burned out lightbulbs, getting stuff in storage that ought to have been put away right after Christmas or right after our June Vacation, cleaning the garage a bit, that sort of thing.

Saturday I was sick and stayed home from work. That gave me a nice excuse to stay in bed all day finishing Sethra Lavode, by Steven Brust. I really recommend that and the two volumes preceding it (The Paths of the Dead and The Lord of Castle Black). It made me laugh, it made me cry, it was better than Cats -- all of that. There aren't that many days that start out with vomiting where my spirits are so high for the rest of the day. I sent Steven a thank-you note.

By Sunday I was much better and we had a good SFOHA meeting planning our Noreascon activities (for which I have an Action Item list a mile long, but oh well.) After that Bill and I walked over to mom and dad's. With a few stops and some stuff we already had, we took over a dinner of Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Green Beans, and Fresh Michigan Corn. We had a nice casual dinner out on the deck (the weather was lovely) and then went in and gave Bill a taste of watching the Olympics that he'd been craving.

To help me warm up for the walk home (I was dressed lightly), dad put on the latest Aerosmith album (Really loud, which is the only way to do it!) and Bill watched us crazy Gays dancing like wild people for a couple songs. I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to let loose and dance with my family.

There's a reason we've sometimes taken to answering mom and dad's phone "Gay's Madhouse!" and there's a sort of a lightness of being that comes with that too. We walked home in good spirits and I'm going to try and recapture that mood as I buckle down now to some job applications.

I love Elizabeth Moon--- so much that I occasionally think, "How can I possibly be in love with someone who doesn't like Elizabeth Moon?" but RP was no _Surrender None._ Or _Dark of the Moon_, when it comes to that...

But Elizabeth Moon leaves the world a better place.
