It seems really strange to me, that I have never read the Liaden… - Zer Netmouse
It seems really strange to me, that I have never read the Liaden Universe books, before now.
Oh, whoa! There are, like, five books in that series I haven't read! Thank you for the mention :)
Sure thing! Also, there will be a Liaden Universe party at Detcon1 in July...
Alas, that's out of our range.
I don't suppose you're planning on World Fantasy in November?
I am not, at the moment, planning to attend anything beyond Detcon1. Tj ough I would not be surprized to find myself at Balticon in the Spring, since we are moving to that general area.

This is the first I've heard of them, but then I'll admit I am not very "in touch" with modern fantasy works. What do you like about the novel so far, compared to other fantasy/scifi that you've read? I went to the wikipedia entry for some basic info, and the first series sounds interesting.
I guess they do have a type of wizards in them, but I would not have called them fantasy. They are Space Opera, rather similar to Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga, which also escaped my reading until just last year. (I had *heard* of both these and the vorkosigan saga, but had read neither.)
They have clever, witty people in them, who are brave and loving, both, in full measure, and face interesting challenges. It's good reading.
oh, and the authors have an appreciation of both cats and music that weaves its way throughout. Reminds me also somewhat of Spider Robinson's Callahan's books.
Seems strange to me too, but I do know what you mean. I discovered them about a dozen years ago after having them recommended for literally years for several friends. I came on board as a fan very quickly.
